Antonio C. "Tony" Vaz, 89, passed away on Wednesday,February 27, 2019 at his home, surrounded by his beloved family. He was the loving husband of Erna A. (Woelfle) Vaz, his wife of 65 years. Tony also leaves behind his daughter Joanne Hooley and her husband Robert, and his sons Francis, Robert, and Michael Vaz and their wives Patricia, Amy, and Pamela.
Born in Taunton, Tony was the son of the late Frank C. Vaz and Bella (Berthao) Vaz. He is predeceased by brothers Joseph and Frank Vaz, and sister, Bella Medeiros.
Tony was a graduate of Coyle High School, class of 1947, and served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a machinist for Texas Instruments for 29 years. In retirement, he enjoyed traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife and children, Tony is survived by a brother, Alfred Vaz and two sisters, Mary Vaz and Elsie Ducharme. He was a beloved grandfather to Geoffrey and Eric Langfield and their wives Brandie and Elizabeth; Jason Vaz, his wife Christine, and Corey Vaz; Nicholas and Caralyn Vaz; and Matthew, Grace, and Benjamin Vaz. He also leaves six great-grandchildren Kaylee Cumbus, Olivia, Paige, Chloe and PearlLangfield, and Harper Langfield, as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 at 10:00 a.m., at Saint Nicholas of Myra Church, 499 Spring Street, North Dighton. Interment with military honors will be at Saint Joseph Cemetery in Taunton.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Silva Funeral Home, Taunton.
