Edward Nunes, age 92 , formerly of Jerome Street in Taunton, passed away at the Arbor’s Assisted Living Center on June 26, 2018.

He was the beloved husband of the late Adelaide E. (Severino) Nunes.

Edward was born in New Bedford, a son of the late Edward V. and Mary (DePonte) Nunes.

Before retirement, Mr. Nunes was  employed with the US Postal Service for over 27 years, retiring at the age of 57.

Mr. Nunes proudly served his country with the Army during WWII. He was a Purple Heart and Bronze Star recipient. Edward  was a member of Holy Ghost Society of Annunciation of the Lord Church, VFW, a past Commander of the Taunton DAV and a member of Berkley American Legion Post 121.

Mr. Nunes was also a volunteer with Homes for Troops and the Gift Shop of the Taunton State Hospital for over 16 years.

Mr. Nunes is survived by his loving daughter Kathleen Nunes-Danca and husband Gerald Danca of Wrentham, grandfather of Valerie Nunes- Danca of RI. He was also the brother of Delores Nunes of Attleboro, Elsie Beloli of FL and Shirley Oliveira of Cape Cod, and leaves many nephews, nieces and cousins. He was the brother of the late Gilbert, Daniel Nunes, Mary Nunes, Lorraine Pinheiro and the late Hilda Victorino.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 29, 2018 from 2 to 4pm & 7 to 9pm in the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton.

(Additional parking with handicap access is located on the north side of the funeral home.)

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 30th at 9 am in Annunciation of the Lord Church First Street, Taunton. (Relatives and friends are invited to meet directly at church.) Interment with military honors will follow in Mayflower Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Nunes always supported children in Guatemala, his wish was,  in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to; Unbound 1 Elmwood Ave Kansas City, KS 66103, in Edward’s memory, would be deeply appreciated.
