Ada M. Violette (Alegi) 96, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Wedgemere Health Care in Taunton. She was the wife of the late Winfred H. Violette. Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Amedo and Fortunata (Palazzi) Alegi.
She earned an associate degree in art at New England College of Art now known as Suffolk University. She was the oldest living Alumnus of Suffolk University. She also received a bachelors degree in art from RISDI.
Ada taught art as part of the adult continuing education at Bristol-Plymouth Regional Technical High School for many years and was a substitute teacher for the Taunton Public Schools. A lifelong painter and sketch artist, she was the Norman Rockwell National Art Award recipient. She experimented with different mediums and her favorites were oils, charcoal and water colors. She was most proud of her painting of the Amerigo Vespucci Tall Ship.
Mrs. Violette leaves her children, Gary W. Violette, and his wife Rikki, of Taunton, Craig E. Violette, and his wife Angela, of Taunton, and Darlene F. Violette, and her husband Brian McInnis, of Astoria, NY; a sister, Liberty Flannery; four grandchildren, Shane, Brandon, Melanie, and Bailey; and four great grandchildren, Alixandra, River, Jet, Vance and Remy. She was the sister of the late Americo Alegi, Elena Dennen, and Prudence Smith.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, February 27, 2020 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square)
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
Ada’s funeral will be held on Friday, February 28, 2020 at 8:30 am, from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in the Annunciation of the Lord Church, First Street, Taunton.
Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
