TAUNTON - Adelino "Pete" Paulo, a lifelong Taunton resident, died at Taunton Nursing Home on April 21, 2011 at the age of 89.
He was the husband of Vivian (Vieira) Paulo, to whom he was married for nearly 67 years.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late John P. and Antonia (Perry) Paulo.
He graduated from Taunton High School in 1941, and later served in the U.S. Army during WW II, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and receiving the Purple Heart.
Mr. Paulo was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for over 28 years.
Following his retirement in 1987, he worked for the Davol Printing Co. until 2002.
An active communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, where he served as Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council member, Mr. Paulo was past president of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, the Holy Name Society, the Legion of Mary, and the Catholic Charities Appeal Campaign.
He was also a recipient of the Marian Medal Award.
Past president of the Cape Verdean Association and Laborers Union Local 876, he was known as a skilled carpenter and Jack-Of-All-Trades.
In May of 2010, a bridge dedication ceremony was held in honor of Pete's service to his community and country, as a sign bearing his name was placed over Taunton's High St. Bridge.
In addition to his wife of Taunton, he leaves a son, James A. Paulo of Taunton; three daughters, Aleta Correia and her husband Larry of Berkley, Susan Santos of Taunton, and Jane Luidens and her husband Marius of Alpharetta, GA; two sisters, Marie Andrews of Onset, and Sylvina Fernandes of Taunton; eleven grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late John, Adeline, and Louise Paulo.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Wednesday, April 27th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of The Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 26th from 4 to 8 p.m.
