Alan L. Avellar, age 76 of Taunton, passed away on December 14, 2023 at Morton Hospital.
He was the beloved companion of Judith (Mitton) Gallego.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late August and Mary (Lima) Avellar and step son of the late Antonio Graca.
Before retiring, Mr. Avellar was Vice president of Human resources at the Berklee college of music, during his life he worked many different colleges and institutions across the United States in both human resources and business consulting.
Prior to that Alan served 3 of the City of Taunton’s former mayors as mayoral assistant.
A Staunch Advocate for human rights and equality for women, Alan played a part in the desegregation of several cities including Boston and Beaumont, Texas
He enjoyed Music especially smooth jazz, Broadway plays, fishing with family, in his youth he enjoyed baseball and basketball and enjoyed watching sports later in life.
Alan was a 1966 graduate of Taunton High School
Mr. Avellar was an Army Veteran of Vietnam serving in the Military Police and intelligence
Besides his loving companion Judith, Alan is survived by his brothers and sisters, Randall Avellar, Gary Graca, Doreen Graca all of Taunton, Beverly Avellar of VA and Jacqueline Grace of FL. He was also the brother of the late Joyce Fernandez and the late Victor Avellar.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1pm in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 20th from 4 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home.
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
