Alan Edward Voll

d. December 20, 2020

Alan Edward Voll, born July 27, 1947, reported to the final muster in the sky on December 20, 2020, surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Edward William Voll of Louisville, KY and Chicago, IL and the late Mary Frances Axman Voll Wood of Louisville, KY and Columbus, OH.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50+ years, Carol Cardoza Voll; his sons Alan Edward Voll, Jr. (wife Cassandra) of Newport, RI and Peter John Voll of Taunton, MA; sister Karen Hermina Anglin of Cincinnati, OH; brother Gary William Voll (wife Karen) of Dublin, OH; and brother-in-law Alan Cardoza (wife Jean) of Taunton, MA.

Alan was a member of the Portuguese-American Civic Club, the Polish Club, Trout Unlimited, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 57, Taunton Area Vietnam Veterans Association, Taunton Elks Lodge 150, and the American Poolplayers Association. He was active in the American Red Cross (10 Gallon Blood Donor, Publicity Chairman, and Director), the Easter Seals Volleyball Challenge, the Muscular Dystrophy Association, and the March of Dimes, to name a few.

Alan proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps for 24 years, both Active Duty and Reserve, and was honorably discharged as a Master Sergeant. He served on Active Duty during the Vietnam War and the Gulf War. He was passionate about the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program (founded in 1947) and was the Taunton area coordinator for twenty years, single-handedly establishing and running the local program for many of those, later joining forces with the Citizens for Citizens “Operation Christmas” program. Thousands of area children received toys at Christmas due to his tireless and enduring efforts.

He worked at Reed & Barton Silversmiths in Taunton, MA from 1970 to 1983 in sales, marketing, and customer service.

Alan was a retired U.S. Postal Service letter carrier, maintenance worker, and was the former president of the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 71 in Taunton. He was a graduate of Southeastern Massachusetts University (now UMass Dartmouth) with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management. He also completed graduate courses in the MBA program at Bryant University.

After his retirement from the U.S. Postal Service in 2017, Alan worked part-time as a Funeral Assistant for Silva Funeral Home in Taunton.

There are many ways to describe Alan’s legacy -- his humanitarian service, his generosity, his love for others. His life made an impression on the world around him and changed it for the better. Alan is remembered by those who knew him best for his quick wit, joke-telling, impressive body of knowledge and trivia skills, kindness, and willingness to lend a helping hand to all those in need. He shared his humorous anecdotes with all who cared to listen and lit up every room he entered. He was an avid angler who also loved handball, all New England sports teams, and, most of all, his family and friends. Alan was married to the love of his life, Carol, for over 50 years; his love for her and their sons, Alan Jr. and Peter, was beyond measure. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

Arrangements are with his dear friends of The Silva Funeral Home, Taunton.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Vincent De Paul Society or the Taunton Boys and Girls Club.  Or better yet, honor Alan every year as you donate a new, unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots / Operation Christmas. Semper Fi.
