Albert P. Oliveira, age 91, of North Dighton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at New England Sinai Hospital in Stoughton. He was the beloved husband of the late Beatrice A. (Cabral) Oliveira, to whom he was wed for sixty-one years at the time of her death on January 17, 2010.
Born in Madeira Island, Portugal on March 30, 1927, he was a loving son of the late Carlos and Maria (daCosta) Oliveira.
Albert grew up and was educated in Portugal, though trips back and forth to America were made throughout his youth. At the age of nineteen, he moved permanently to the United States and raised his family in Winchester. He spent many summers in Dighton, working on his cottage, and entertaining family and friends. He later moved to North Dighton, where he has made his home for the past 34 years.
Prior to retiring, Mr. Oliveira had been employed for many years as a paper cutter at the Edinboro Offset Co. in Boston. Following retirement, he worked at the American Auto Auction in Taunton, a job he truly loved.
Al was an active communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church in North Dighton and the St. Vincent De Paul Society. His other memberships included the King David Masonic Lodge in Taunton and the Taunton Lodge of Elks #150, the Shriners, and various Portuguese clubs throughout the years, sometimes serving as an officer.
Mr. Oliveira had a passion for and was well known for the beautiful gardens that adorned his yard in North Dighton. He was a giving man who was always helping family, friends and neighbors. He loved sharing his knowledge, past experiences, adventures, travels and interesting facts. Humor was always a part of his life--he enjoyed a funny joke and making others laugh. Even at 91, reading and being knowledgeable about current events was a daily part of his life, as was daily exercise. He very much enjoyed taking part in community events whenever possible, especially lunch with his friends at St. Thomas and breakfast bingo at Longmeadow.
He was the devoted father of Judith A. Skinner of North Attleboro, and the late Albert J. Oliveira and Daniel Oliveira. He was the cherished grandfather of Matthew Oliveira and his wife Lori, John “Jake” Skinner, III and his wife Amy, Jennifer Medas and her husband Graham, Daniel Oliveira and his girlfriend Joanna, Katherine Oliveira and her fiancé John, Shaine Sprague and the late Garret Skinner. He was the adoring great grandfather of Kaylee, Maya, Isaac, Jake, Avery, Reagan, Kara and Corey. He was the dear brother of Maria Clark of Somerville, and the late Americo Oliveira, Carlos Oliveira and Diamantina Amaral. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Oliveira’s funeral will be held on Monday, August 27, 2018 at 9:30 A.M. from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 11:00 A.M. in St. Nicholas of Myra Church, 499 Spring St., North Dighton.
