Alfred F. "Duke" Sousa, 85, husband for 59 years of Dorothy (Martin) Sousa, died on Wednesday Sept. 10th, at Marian Manor.
Born in Norton, he was the son of the late Frank and Virginia (Silvia) Sousa.
A resident of N. Dighton for the past 59 years, he worked for Talbot Woolen Mills and Raytheon for 28 years, before retiring many years ago.
During WW II, he served with the U.S. Army in Germany for 2 years, attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. and was awarded the Purple Heart.
A communicant of the former St. Joseph Church in N. Dighton, he was a member of the VFW Post 611 in Taunton.
He also played baseball for the Portuguese American Civic Club in the Taunton Twilight League.
Besides his wife, he leaves 2 grandchildren, Sherri Kimery of Vero Beach, FL and Jeff Sousa of NJ; 2 great grandchildren; 2 brothers and a sister.
He was predeceased by his son, the late Frank Sousa.
A Memorial Mass will be held in the Marian Manor Chapel, 33 Summer St. Taunton on Monday, Sept. 15th at 10:45 a.m.
A graveside service will be held at Mayflower Hill Cemetery, on Thursday, Sept. 18th at 12 Noon.
