Alice S. (Horta) Dutra, wife of the late Edward F. Dutra, died on Thursday, Sept. 18th at the Southpointe Rehab & Nursing Center in Fall River. She was 79.
Born in Mt. Vernon, NY, the daughter of the late Antone and Rita (Nascimento) Horta, she moved this area in 1929.
Educated in Taunton schools, she later worked as a bookbinder for the Rand McNally Co. for over 20 years, before retiring at the age of 65.
A communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church, in North Dighton, she enjoyed serving as a volunteered grandmother for the Head Start program.
She leaves a son, Edward F. Dutra and his wife Maryellen of S. Dighton; a special niece, Rosemary Horta of Port St. Lucie, FL; 2 brothers, Antone S. Horta of Wallingford, CT and Frank S. Horta of Clearwater, FL; 2 grandsons, Kevin Goff and Kyle Dutra, both of Dighton; a great-grandson, Skye Goff of Somerset and several nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, N. Dighton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at Cedar Knoll Cemetery, E. Taunton.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
