Listen to Obituary

Anne (Vargas) Ferreira , age 92, passed away peacefully at home after a period of declining health.

She was the widow of George Ferreira, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage. She was also blessed with ten children, Mary Anne Koneski and husband, Steven, George and wife, Maria, Mary Rose Ferreira, Paul, Mary Margaret Horner and husband, Mark, Mary Frances Vivenzio and husband, Anthony, Mary Catherine Santos, Mary Louise Evan and husband, Richard, Stephen and wife, Carla and Mary Ellen Medeiros and husband, Mark. She had thirty grandchildren and soon-to-be 12 great-grandchildren. She was sister to Bernadette O’Keefe and the late Paul Vargas, Raymond Vargas, and Catherine Scott and leaves several nieces and nephews. Alongside her children, she was lovingly cared for by four of her granddaughters and a caretaker who cared for her like family; Mary Breen.

Anne graduated from Bridgewater State College with her Bachelor’s degree and worked as a teacher in Freetown until she had her first child.

Anne’s life didn’t seem extraordinary to most as a housewife raising her family. She didn’t travel much or even go out to eat much. But all ten kids adored her, respected her, went to her for advice and prayer and took care of her until the end. She taught us to be kind, forgiving, hospitable even when you don’t have much to give, friendly to everyone and not to be afraid to laugh at yourself. She was as genuine as you get. And she had a faith like no one we know that she shared by example. She taught us to pray in all situations. We didn’t always listen to her advice or live by her example but she loved us and prayed for us, never giving up. She lived like Paul taught in 1 Corinthians 13. Her love was patient and kind and all who knew her felt better after spending time with her.
