Anthony Souza, Jr., age 86 of Norton, passed away on December 30, 2017 at Rhode Island Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Elsie (Rapoza) Souza.
Mr. Souza was born in Taunton, a son of the late Anthony and Elvira (Lopes) Souza, Sr. Before retirement, Anthony was the owner and operator of Souza Form Co of Taunton & Norton. Mr. Souza enjoyed restoring antique cars, Jeeps, being a wood worker he made many items including two wooden boats. He could make, fix and do just about anything. He served his country with the US Army as a Corporal from 1949-1953. Mr. Souza was a former Exalted Ruler with the Taunton Elk’s, and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his children, their spouses, his grandchildren and great grand children. He enjoyed being social and his sense of humor always put smiles on faces. He was an animal lover and all animals loved him back. He took incredible care of his family as well as his belongings with great detail and pride.
Besides his beloved wife Elsie of over 67 years, he is survived by his children; Anthony J. Souza (Barbara) of East Taunton, Thomas A. Souza of Norton, James A. Souza (Dennis) of Boston, Judith A. Panaikas of Taunton, Joyce A. Joubert (Richard) of North Dighton, Joan M. Holman of Falmouth and Jean M. DeSousa (Jose) of Taunton, grandfather of 10, great-grandfather of 12. He was also the brother of Joseph Sousa of Falmouth, Nancy Souza and Eleanor Corderre both of Taunton.
Mr. Souza’s funeral will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 8:30am from The Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am in Saint Anthony Church, School Street, Taunton. Visiting hours are on Friday, January 5th from 4 to 7 pm. (Additional parking with handicap access is located on the north side of the funeral home)
