Antonio “Tony” P. Moreira, age 73, passed away on May 17, 2025 at home surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Maria (Andrade) Moreira.
Tony was born, raised and educated in Santa Maria, Azores. He came to the United States at the age of 14 and was the son of the late Jose and Ermelinda (Paiva) Moreira.
Mr. Moreira was employed by Stonehill College for 35 years, and retired in February 2025. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Tony was a very hard working man with a great sense of humor.
Tony enjoyed watching western movies, The Three Stoogies, coin collecting and took great pride in his yard work. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He will be missed and will remain in our hearts forever.
Besides his beloved wife Maria of 53 years, he is survived by his daughters; Debbie Paes and husband Pierre of Taunton, Nellie Batista and husband John-Paul of East Taunton, grandchildren; Ashley Paes, Alyssa Paes, Arianna Batista, Christopher Batista, brother; Manuel Moreira of Taunton, sister; Maria Resendes of Santa Maria Azores and many nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends. He was the father of the late Lisa Moreira and brother of the late Antonio Reis and Jose Reis.
Tony’s funeral with visitation will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 at 9:00am from the Silva Funeral Home (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Holy Family Church, East Taunton.
Interment will be held in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
