Barbara Ruth Brown, age 91, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, on the morning of Sunday, June 25, 2023, at Morton Hospital. She was the devoted wife for 48 years to the late Richard H. Brown.
Born in Taunton, Barbara was one of eight children born to the late John Vieira and Ruth (Walters) Bennett. She was raised in Taunton and attended Taunton Public Schools.
After Richard and Barbara married, they began not only their life with one another, but started their family as well. All together, they raised their family of 12 children. Having the ever so important job of being a dedicated Homemaker to her adoring family, Barbara took pride in providing a safe and comforting home to her children.
In her spare time she enjoyed cooking, playing bingo and listening to music. Above all, she was most happy when she was in the presence of and making memories with her many generations of family.
Barbara is survived by her proud and cherished sons: Richard H. Brown, Jr. of Acushnet, Frank S. Brown of Taunton, Michael W. Brown of Florida, Mark S. Brown of Florida, and Charles E. Brown of Maine; her doting and adored daughters: Jo Anne Bishop of Taunton, and Ruth Brown of New Hampshire; her 44 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; her siblings: Steve Pewsy of RI, Leah Pewsy of RI and Deborah McElroy of RI; and also several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents and husband, Barbara is preceded in passing by her children: Robert G. Brown, Vickie Brown, Barbara Brown, Alice Brown, and Nancy Brown; and also her siblings: John Vieira Jr, Steven Vieira, Ralph Pewsy, and Donna Pewsy.
Barbara’s visitation with funeral will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023 at 10:00am followed by a funeral service beginning at 11:00am in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Cedar Knoll Cemetery, East Taunton.
