Barbara E. Fernandes, 70, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2021 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham following a long period of declining health and just three days after testing positive for COVID-19.
Born in Taunton, Barbara was the beloved daughter of the late Francisco and Dolores (Torres) Fernandes.
She was educated in Taunton Public Schools and spent her life in the Taunton area. Before her retirement, she served the senior citizens in her community as an Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) and, later, as an activities director at Longmeadow of Taunton Nursing Home.
Barbara was the loving mother of Stacy L. Murphy and her husband Christopher, and Melanie J. Mead and her wife Jennifer. The greatest sources of joy and pride in her life were her four grandchildren: Robyn Ashley, Adam Misiaszek, Jolie Misiaszek, and Colin Murphy.
She enjoyed hiking, gardening, collecting angels and crystals, as well as creating beautiful arrangements of both dried and live flowers. Her favorite holiday was Christmas, when she would give gifts adorned with elaborate bows (which could never ever be crushed).
In addition, Barbara is survived by her siblings, Patricia Chaffin and her husband James, and Ronald Fernandes and his wife Audrey, as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, December 6, 2021 at 1pm in St. Mary’s Church Broadway in Taunton, followed by internment in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
