Bruce Wayne Axon, age 76, of Raynham, passed away surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of family on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the devoted and loving husband for 40 years to Gladys Perry of Raynham.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, Bruce was the only child born to the late Harold and Mary (White) Axon. He was raised and grew up in Cumberland, RI.
Bruce was a proud veteran of the United States Army. He served during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1974 with the rank of SP5.
A hardworking man with a great work ethic, Bruce worked as a Truck Driver in the Construction field. He was the Owner and Operator of his own business, B&S Trucking in Rayham. Throughout his career, Bruce also worked for Carney Trucking, RW Stanley Paving and he carried his Teamster Union Card for a short period of time.
In his spare time, Bruce had a wide array of hobbies and interests. He enjoyed watching car racing, especially the amateur and dirt track races. He spent much of his time watching the races at Seekonk Speedway, often taking a seat in the stands near turn four. Bruce was always cheering for his son who often raced at Seekonk Speedway and he was a proud member of his pit crew team. He liked to go camping and spent time at various campgrounds throughout New England, various states along the East Coast and Canada. Bruce was a member of the Wampanoag Camping Community, where he made many friends with his fellow campers. He was an Old Western movie buff. Above all, he cherished the time spent and memories made with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was truly their “Superfan” and at every sporting event, Bruce was the loudest one in the crowd rooting and cheering them on.
In addition to his dear wife, Bruce is survived by his cherished children: Steve Axon and his Significant Other Melissa of Attleboro, Jennifer Thurston and her husband Jeffrey of Cumberland; his step-children: David Perry and his wife Lena of Dighton and Laurie Perry of Salem, NH; his grandchildren: Austin, Derek, Elizabeth, Cassidy, Brett, Lily, and Jackson; his sister-in-laws: Emily and Aurora and her significant other Bill.
A Mass of Christian will be celebrated on Monday , February 10, 2025, at 10:00am in St. Ann's Parish, 675 North Main Street, Raynham. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at church at 9:45am
Interment will be held at a later date.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday , February 9, 2025, from 2:00-4:00pm in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary's Square) Taunton.
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the northside of the funeral home.
