Bruce Wayne Moniz, age 70, a proud, lifelong resident of East Taunton, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of Sunday, February 16, 2025. He was the longtime companion to Tracey Hawes for 28 years as they shared many simple pleasures such as camping, cooking for friends and family, or taking day trips to local casinos.
Born in Taunton, Bruce was the youngest of 12 children born to the late Manuel and Edna (Correia) Moniz. He was raised in East Taunton and was residing back in his childhood home at the time of his passing. He vowed never to leave East Taunton. During his younger years, Bruce worked for many years as a carpenter, constructing many homes in the local area. In the latter years he transitioned to finish work and home improvements. He took great pride in the quality of his work and loved to joke, "you're on my list". Bruce's proudest achievement was his daughter Carla. He took great pride in all her accomplishments and was amazed by the truly kind and wonderful lady he had helped raise. They had so much more than a father/daughter relationship, they were best friends, and he loved every minute they spent together and looked forward to their nightly chats during her commute. He truly cherished spending time with his brother Gene and was always by his side, either clamming in Duxbury, hunting, or just reminiscing in their adjacent yards. Bruce looked forward to spending time with his CX camping friends at his seasonal campsite in Bourne Scenic Park. Enjoying the company of friends by the campfire with Coors Light in one hand and good cigar in the other, Bruce was always enthusiastic to pass around a bag of shots for a spontaneous toast and loved his camping family, who he routinely invited to enjoy clam boils or "meat on a stick". Bruce will always be remembered by many for his big heart and willingness to pitch in and lend a hand to anyone needing help. He leaves a lifelong impression on the hearts of those who knew him. In addition to his longtime companion, Tracey, and daughter Carla, he will be immensely missed by his surviving siblings: Gene Moniz, Charlie Moniz, Nancy Jones, Sandy Baylies, and John Moniz; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, Bruce is preceded in passing by his siblings: Dot Menice, Edna Mae Antunes, Maureen Herbert, Richie Moniz, Manny Moniz, Jr., and Lorraine Chappell; his K-9 companions: Ranger and Buster and his grand-pup: Roman.
Bruce’s Visitation will be held on SUNDAY, March 2, 2025 from 1 to 4pm in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
A Celebration of Bruce's life will be held at a later date, with the time, date and location to be announced. Interment will be held privately.
