Carlos Alberto Baganha, age 65, of Taunton, died on January 12, 2025 in the hospital surrounded by loved ones, after a long illness. Carlos was the loving husband of Teresa Furtado Baganha for over 43 years.
He was the son of Maria Joana Baganha and the late Antonio Sousa Baganha. Carlos was born and grew up on the Island of São Miguel, Azores. He made Taunton his home when he moved to the United States almost 44 years ago.
Carlos enjoyed visiting his beloved island of São Miguel, Azores, especially during the Feasts of Santo Cristo and Our Lady of Angels. He loved his family and especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Carlos was a long-time Benfica fan and would not miss a game. He especially loved attending the Benfica game at their stadium in Lisbon.
Carlos was a devoted husband and father and was very engaged in every aspect of his family’s life. He had so much to live for and was determined to watch his grandchildren grow up. He had many health issues throughout his life but was always positive and never complained. Carlos was a warrior and fought this battle like a champion to the end.
Carlos was a devout catholic and communicant of Saint Andrew the Apostle Church in Taunton. His faith was evident through his devotion to Santo Cristo, Our Lady of Angels and the Holy Ghost. In fact, he hosted several Domingas in his house in Taunton and in São Miguel.
Father of Ricardo Baganha and his wife Megan of Taunton, Andre Baganha of Taunton, and Sonia Baganha Gomes and her husband Kevin of California. “Vavô” to Isaiah, Elias, Luka and Amiyah. Brother to Joe Baganha of Taunton, Teresa Furtado of Bridgewater, Margarida Baganha and Maria Prosper of Bourne and Paulo Baganha of Dighton. Carlos is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held at the Mayflower Cemetery.
