Carlota (Avelino) Baptista, age 60 of Taunton, passed away on May 26, 2020 after receiving medical care in Boston.
She was the wife of John M. Baptista.
Carlota was born in Brava, Cabo Verde and is the daughter of Maria (DaRosa) Avelino and the late Manuel Avelino.
Carlota was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and daughter. She was an amazing cook who enjoyed making Cape Verdean and Portuguese dishes. She loved going to church, spending time with her loved ones, interior decorating, traveling across the states and internationally to Portugal and the Cape Verde Islands and spending her fall weekends camping down the Cape at Bay View with her family and friends. She also loved sewing curtains and drapes and had worked 25 years at the Renni’s Curtain Factory until closed and continued her career as a lab technician at Stern Lech Company. She was adored by many for her vibrant personality and warm smile. She will be deeply missed by her family and loved ones.
Besides her beloved husband of 30 years she is survived by her children; Ashley Baptista, Felicia Santos, Brenda Michelle Baptista, David Baptista, and Christopher Baptista. She was the loving nana to Xavier Gomes, Darius Gomes, and Bryce Rodrigues. Carlota also leaves her siblings; Joao Avelino, Jose Avelino, John Barros, Domingas Avelino and Luisa Barros, several brother-in- laws and sister-in-laws, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 1, 2020 at 9 am in Saint Anthony Church School Street, Taunton. Everyone may meet directly at church and are asked to park in the back parking lot, please wear masks when entering the church.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 31st from 3 to 6pm in the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the north side of the funeral home. Social distancing will be observed, please wait in your vehicle and a staff member will escort guests into the funeral home.
