Carlton "Hub" Barney

d. June 7, 2025

Carlton “Hub” Barney, age 79 of Taunton, passed away on June 7, 2025 at Morton Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was the husband of Brenda (Silvia) Barney.

Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Elliot and Alma (Simmons) Barney-Taylor.

Hub was educated in Taunton, graduating from Taunton High School in 1964. He received a degree from Johnson and Wales. He began his long-standing, strong work ethic as a teenager working at Frates, a job he loved and still spoke about. He worked at Robertson Factories for many years as a Vice-President of Sales, before acquiring Bristol County Electric, now the Lighting Gallery on Weir Street in Taunton. Hub worked hard to successfully grow the business, creating his legacy to be carried on by his children. He enjoyed working and was still going into the office until his last days.

Hub was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, having no problem expressing his opinions to the television as he watched them. He was a card shark, enjoyed going out to dinner, and spending time with family. He enjoyed traveling with friends and family, especially with his brother-in-law and best friend, John Fernandes. Hub very much enjoyed watching all of his grandsons play sports and was very proud of them and their accomplishments. Family was always the most important thing to Hub. Over the years, many have benefited from Carl’s integrity, honesty, and kindness, and he will be missed by employees and business relationships dearly.

Besides his loving wife Brenda of 57 years, he is survived by his daughter Heather Barney and his son Marc Barney, and his wife Jessica. He was the cherished Papa of Paul “PJ” Corrao, Jr., Dylan Barney, Matthew Barney, brother; David Barney and wife Diana, sister; Linda Carter and husband Scott, brother-in-law; John Fernandes and wife Kathy, sister-in-law; Margaret Silvia and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Hub was the brother-in-law of the late Albert Silvia.

Services will be held privately.
