Carmelia R. Medeiros (DeMelo) 65, of Dighton, Ma, rose to heaven on Saturday, April 3, 2021, surrounded by loved ones at Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a valiant battle against COVID-19. She was the devoted wife of Jose F. Medeiros for the past 43 years.

Carmelia entered the world in Povoação, São Miguel of the Azores as the beloved daughter of the late Eugenio R. and Leontina R. (DeMelo) DeMelo. She spent her first 7 years there before the family moved to São Paulo, Brazil where Carmelia dedicatedly served her family before they ventured to the United States at the age of 17.

She and Jose wed at St. Anthony's church and built a dream life for themselves from there on. Carmelia proudly worked for Texas Instruments as a group leader for over 31 years and then served over a decade in elderly health care at Cooperative Productions. She then spent her most cherished time caring for her grandchildren in her retirement.

Mrs. Medeiros loved singing and dancing to religious music, while cooking the most amazing meals for her family. She also enjoyed vacationing, particularly to the earth's beautiful beaches. She energized herself by gardening, swimming, and most of all, spending quality time with her family and friends.

In addition to her husband Jose, she leaves behind her two sons, Korey R. Medeiros, of Taunton and Matthew R. Medeiros, of Dighton; and her two granddaughters, Kaydence and Gabriella Medeiros. She was the 2nd youngest of five children, and is survived by her siblings, Dinarte DeMelo, Dinesia Leite, Azerina Marques, and Claudio DeMelo. Carmelia also meant the world to many loving cousins, nieces, and nephews, who she was very close to.
