Cecilia (Nunes) Branquinho, age 89 of Taunton, passed away on May 6, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
She was the beloved wife of the late Arthur P. Branquinho who passed in 2019.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, the daughter of the late Jose Botelho and Maria da Estrela (Cabral) Nunes.
Before retiring, Cecilia was employed as a machine stitching operator with George Keith Shoe Company and Alden Shoe Company for many years.
Cecilia enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch with her neighbors and close friend Senhora Pacheco. Cecilia found joy in simple things - caring for her house plants and flowers while listening to Portuguese music. She looked forward to making Vinho Abafado in the fall with family and friends by her side. Then later in the spring she enjoyed the festa of tasting all the different Abafado blends.
Cecilia is survived by her loving children, son Jorge Branquinho and his wife Ivone of Hollister, California, and her daughter Nelia Chaves and her husband John of Taunton, grandmother of Larry and partner Stephanie, Jamie and partner Lucy, Devin and spouse Colin, Arianna, and Great- Grandmother of Theo. Mrs. Branquinho was also the sister of Jose Nunes of New Bedford, MA. Manuel Nunes of Kitimat, Canada. She was also sister of the late Joao Nunes, Custodio Nunes, Maria de Deus Piques, Lurdes Bizarro and Almorinda Pereira.
Cecilia’s funeral with visitation will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026 at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Anthony Church School Street, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
