Charles E. Correia, age 87 of East Taunton a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend - passed away on Sunday, September 11th, 2022.
Through the years, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family and following the local sports teams. He loved visiting Saratoga, making annual trips there with friends and family - usually returning home a little bit lighter than when he left.
He cherished being a grandfather and great-grandfather.
Charlie called the E. Taunton area home for 87 years and spent time in the Army in service to his country. Some of his family made their way to Florida and he thoroughly enjoyed an occasional trip to see them. When he returned from a Florida trip, the stories he told lasted a lifetime and they will live on even after his passing.
He was proud of his 33-year career in the corrections department and the colleagues and acquaintances he met over the years. He had become an expert of sorts on the history of the corrections department in Bridgewater, and on occasion was consulted by various researchers regarding the operation “back in the day.” Tales of the Brinks Gang and the Boston Strangler kept everyone who would listen captivated and entertained.
Besides his beloved wife Elaine of over 66 years, he is survived by his loving sons; Raymond Correia and wife Lori of Rehoboth, Michael Correia and wife Theresa of Middleboro and Charles “Chuck” Correia and wife Kelly of Plainville. He was the grandfather of Lauren, Brian and Bridget, great-grandfather of Evelyn and Andre. Mr. Correia was also the brother of Richard Correia and Mary Nevitt both of FL, and brother of the late Shirley Correia.
Mr. Correia’s funeral with visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at 9 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in Holy Family Church Middleboro Ave East Taunton. Interment with military honors will be held privately at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to a charity of one’s choice in Mr. Correia’s memory, would be deeply appreciated.
