TAUNTON - D. Audrey (Vargas) Hathaway, 87, died at Morton Hospital on Nov. 13, 2009 after a period of failing health.
Born and raised in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph G. and Maria L. (daSilva) Vargas.
She was a 1940 graduate of Taunton High School.
Mrs. Hathaway was employed by the former New England Telephone Co. as a telephone operator for 10 years, before retiring in 1987.
She was previously the vice president of Taunton Garage Door, which she ran with her late, former husband, James B. Hathaway Jr. for 33 years.
A communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church in N. Dighton, Mrs. Hathaway enjoyed dining out and was an animal lover.
She leaves a son, James "Jay" Hathaway, III, and his wife Jayne of Taunton; four grandchildren; a great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Beatrice P. "Betty" Vargas.
A memorial mass will be held at a later date.
