Daniel Rodrigues, age 97, of Taunton passed away at his home on Sunday, February 2, 2025. He was surrounded by the love, comfort and care of his family. Dan was a devoted husband 62 years to the late Lillian E (Pina) Rodrigues.

Born in New Bedford to Manuel and Maria (Teca Santos) Rodrigues. Dan was a proud and patriotic man and was a Veteran of the United States Army and served during the WWII era.

After discharge from the Army he pursued his passion and education in photography and continued this career until recent years. He also worked for many years as a pipe fitter/welder.

Daniel was proud of his American Cape Verdean heritage growing up in New Bedford,Mass and served as a Board Member of the Descendants of Whaling Masters, Inc. He spent many years researching and promoting the history of Cape Verdeans in Whaling and in particular ,research about his grandfather ,Captain John Theofilo Gonsalves , who was the last Captain of the whaling  ship "Charles W Morgan". He also was a member of the Cape Verdean Advisory Committee with the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

He and his wife Lillian were active board members of Padre Pio Gottin Charities, Inc which continued the humanitarian endeavors of Padre Pio for Cape Verdeans . and members of the Association for the Development of Catholic University of Portugal (ADCUP).

In Dan's spare time he enjoyed bowling ,traveling, photography, dancing with Lillian  and  of late feeding all the birds and  animals in his pool yard!

He is survived by his cherished and devoted daughter,: Dona Rodrigues Taylor and her husband Rodney E Taylor and several nieces ,nephews and extended "Teca" family.

He is preceded in passing by his brothers: Joaquim "Jack", Joseph "Joe", John and Franky Rodrigues and a sister, Anna Askew.

Mr. Rodrigues’s  funeral will be held on TUESDAY, February 11th, 2025 at 9:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul at 11am in Saint Anthony Church, 126 School Street, Taunton.

Interment in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.

Visiting hours will be held on MONDAY, February 10th, 2025 from 5 to 7 pm in the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
