David Medeiros Mello, age 84, of Taunton, passed away on February 27, 2021 at his residence with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of Mary (Teixeira) Mello.
David was born in Lomba da Maia, Sao Miguel, Azores the son of the late Manuel and Maria (Medeiros) Mello.
In his mid 20’s he moved to Bermuda, where he worked at a large resort hotel. He met Maria there and they became engaged within 3 days. They lived in Taunton where they raised their girls. He was a man of strong faith. Before retiring, Mr. Mello was employed with Beacon Felt Co.
His passions were gardening, farming and livestock, and would spend endles hours the farm after working his full time job. His love of farming began at age 8 when he started milking cows for the family. After retiring, he preferred to remain busy from sunrise to sunset tending to his gardens, lawn, livestock, and grapevines, and his wine was legendary.
He was an avid New Englan sports fan, often yelling at the TV. If he had an audience he would tell stories forever, especially the family cookouts with friends and relatives.
Besides his beloved wife Mary of over 58 years, he is survived by his loving daughters; Teresa Mello and Linda Mello Carmo both of Taunton. David was the grandfather of Christopher and Timothy Carmo and the late Jonathan Carmo, neices, nephews, and godchildren.
David was one of 13 children and is also survived by a sister Maria DaPonte of Taunton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 10 am in Annunciation of the Lord Church First Street, Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at church at 9:45 am .
During all services, facial coverings and social distancing will be required.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to Leukemia Foundation in David’s memory, would be deeply appreciated.
