Donald V. Vine, age 89 formerly of North Dighton, entered peacefully into eternal rest on June 15, 2020 at Marian Manor in Taunton with his beloved daughters by his side.
He was the former husband of the late Nancy M. (Hartley) Vine.
Donald was born in Cranston, RI, son of the late Herbert and Gertrude (Lawson) Vine. He was a graduate of St Paul's Grammar School, Cranston High School and Providence College prior to enlisting in the Navy during the Korean War.
Mr. Vine was employed as a Loan Officer for many years with a number of local banks including First Bristol County National, Shawmut, and Fleet. He spent most of his career working on the Taunton Green enabling him to enjoy lunch every Friday with friends at Harry's La Casa Mia. He then continued his professional career conducting real estate appraisals before retiring and working part-time at a local home improvement store where his carpentry skills were very useful.
He enjoyed spending time with his family attending school, sporting and dance events as a proud Dad and PopPop. He thoroughly took pleasure in his home, which he proudly built on a quiet dead end street where he happily raised his daughters. Prior to having a family, he was an avid golfer, enjoyed cruising out of the Edgewood Yacht Club on the boat he built and playing on his bowling team called the Four Musty Beers.
Donald was a life-long devout Roman Catholic and member of the Knight's of Columbus. He was a long time communicant of St. Joseph's Parish in N. Dighton where he served on the religious education board in addition to being a collector for the Catholic Charities Appeal. When his girls were young, he faithfully attended 10 am Mass on Sundays and in his later years, he could be seen weekly at the Vigil Mass passing the basket.
He is survived by his loving children; Susan E. Duncan and husband James of Rehoboth and Amy E. Vine of Plainville, grandfather of Jonathan, Andrea and Erica Duncan all of Rehoboth. He was also the brother of the late Arthur F. Vine of NJ and Joan Emmett of Coventry, RI.
