Edith May (Pine) Baptista, a longtime Taunton resident, died at Norwood Hospital on April 15, 2009.
The wife of Alfred W. Baptista, she was 85 years old.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Manuel S. and Rose (Mendonca) Pine.
A 1941 graduate of Taunton High School, she later received an Associate's Degree from Bristol County Business College.
Mrs. Baptista was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, and Treasurer of the Taunton Little Theater Group.
She enjoyed music, theatre, and traveling, especially with her family, and will be remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
Besides her husband, she leaves 3 sons, Alfred W. Baptist, Jr. and his wife, Lorraine, Robert A. Baptista and his wife, Sharon, and Alan R. Baptista, all of Taunton; a daughter, Nancy A. Gifford of Bourne; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Mary, Rose, Manuel, Anna and Fanny Pine, and was also predeceased by her late son-in-law, Clayton Gifford.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, on Monday, April 20th at 8 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Church at 9 a.m.
Interment will be at the MA National VA Cemetery in Bourne.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, April 19th from 4 to 7 p.m.
