Edna L. (Dias) Mitton, age 100, a lifelong resident of Taunton, passed away peacefully on the morning of Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at Morton Hospital in Taunton. She was the loving and devoted wife for nearly 80 years to Gerald Mitton.
Born in Taunton, Edna was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Manuel and Ellen (Duarte) Dias. She was raised and grew up in Taunton.
A woman with a strong work ethic, for over 30 years, Edna worked as a trimmer for New Jersey Rubber Company in Taunton.
Edna was a communicant of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Taunton. She was a devout Catholic who loved the Lord Jesus, looking upon her faith for guidance throughout many times in her life.
In her spare time, Edna had a wide variety of hobbies and interests. She enjoyed her many ventures to the casino where she loved to play the penny slots. She was also an avid singer and dancer. Above all, she cherished the time spent and memories made with her treasured family.
In addition to her husband, Edna is survived by her proud children: Stephen Mitton and his wife Pearl, Mary Ellen Bagwell and her late husband Dick, James Mitton, Timothy Mitton and his wife Paula, and Elizabeth Beaudoin and her husband Rob; her 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and also countless nieces, nephews, and extended family.
In addition to her parents, Edna is preceded in passing by all of her 12 siblings and her adored and beloved grandson: Joshua Mitton.
Edna’s funeral will be held on Saturday , January 25, 2025 at 8:30 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of her soul at 10 am in Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, Kilmer Avenue in Taunton. Interment will follow in Old Saint Francis Cemetery, Glebe Street, Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday , January 24th from 5 to 7 pm in the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
