Eleanor Lucy (Genovese) DeMello, age 96, of Raynham, MA passed away peacefully at home with her loving daughters by her side on Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
She was the wife of the late Manual S. DeMello.
Ellie was born on February 21, 1930 in Taunton, Massachusetts, the daughter of Vincent P. and Raffaela (Ruggiero) Genovese.
As a resident of Raynham since 1961, Ellie devoted her life to her family and her faith. She was a very active member of St. Ann Church in Raynham. Volunteering at penny sales and fall festivals, she ran a popular candy and fruit booth for over 20 years. Service included past vice-president of the Women’s Guild, Altar Society, St. Ann’s Sociable Seniors, CCD instructor and the church choir. Awards included the St. Vincent de Paul’s Top Hat Award, the National Council of Catholic Women’s Our Lady of Good Council Award, and the Marian Medal.
Eleanor studied in Boston to become a laboratory technician and worked at Sturdy Memorial Hospital before starting her family. Her passion then turned to mother, homemaker, and grandmother. Ellie’s greatest joy was giving to others. She didn’t simply interact with people she nourished them. Whether you knew her for years or had just met her, she always arrived with a baked good in hand, a gracious gesture that said, “I’m thinking of you.” That was her love language.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her brothers Albert and Horace, and her sister Mary. She is survived by her loving daughters, Linda DeMello and her partner Michael McGrath of Raynham, Susan Marsden and her partner Brian Brooks of SC, Mary Ann DeMello of Fairhaven and Nancy DeMello and her husband Christopher Caputo of Taunton, grandmother of 6, great-grandmother of 13 and great-great-grandmother of 4.
Eleanor’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Ann Church, 675 North Main Street, Raynham.
Burial will follow in Saint. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 24th from 4:00-7:00pm in the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Eleanor’s memory can be made to: St. Vincent de Paul Society of Taunton, 141 Washington St., Taunton, MA 02780 or Birthright of Taunton, 468 Bay St., Taunton, MA 02780
