Elizabeth A. (Carroll) Lewis

d. August 8, 2024

Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Carroll) Lewis, age 92, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, at Village House Convalescent Home in Newport, RI.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Lewis.

Born in Brookline, Elizabeth was the daughter of the late Christopher and Caroline (Morris) Carroll. After meeting John in Onset, they were married and she moved to Taunton, where she spent many happy years. She was later a resident of Milton and Mattapoisett.

Before retiring, she was employed for over 15 years with the City of Taunton as a librarian at the main branch of the Taunton Public Library.

Elizabeth was a voracious reader, a talented artist, and enjoyed the hobby of ceramics for many years. She created several complete ceramic Nativity displays for close family members as well as many other Christmas decorations for her favorite holiday. Even in her later years, few could defeat her at Scrabble.

She also had the distinction of personally meeting both the greatest hitter who ever lived Ted Williams, and the 35th President of the United States John F. Kennedy. The story of how she was picked up hitchhiking by the Splendid Splinter will forever live in family lore.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving sons, John K. Lewis of Onset, MA and Paul C. Lewis of Sterling, VA. Also, by her daughter in law Andrea Sandles Lewis and three grandchildren Seanan, Brianna, and Aidan.

She was the sister of the late William "Willie" Carroll, Henry "Harry" Carroll, Brendan Carroll, and Paul Carroll. She also had three sisters who predeceased her Maude Langdon, Sheila Murphy, and Carolyn "Peg" Tarantino.

Elizabeth’s visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21st, 2024 , at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Annunciation of the Lord Church, First Street, Taunton.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to Our Lady of Lourdes School, 52 First Street, Taunton, Massachusetts in Elizabeth’s memory, would be deeply appreciated.
