Evangelina (Eva) de Araújo Fernandes Belo Borges, age 84 of Taunton, passed away on June 4, 2024 in the comfort of her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Antonio C. Borges. Eva was born in Santa Cruz, Madeira, Portugal and moved to Santa Maria (Azores) at 7 years old. She grew up on Santa Maria where she developed and honed her skills as a seamstress. It was on Santa Maria that Eva met the love of her life, Antonio, and they married in 1964. In 1969, they immigrated to the United States where they continued to grow their loving family.
She was the daughter of the late Maria de Araújo Sol Belo (Melim) and José Fernandes Belo who passed when she was 11 months old. Eva was employed with Paul A. Dever State Hospital and retired as a Medical Assistant, as well as working in healthcare and through retirement she shared her passion of being a talented and successful seamstress. She was well known for making women feel not only beautiful and the best version of themselves on their special day. Eva and Antonio also spent time traveling with their children and her sister Serafina and her late husband, Fernando. The two couples went on numerous cruises and would go camping on Cape Cod every year for the Fourth of July. Eva enjoyed traveling to Santa Maria where they have a second home, spending time with her family, the Boston Celtics, sewing and caring for and watching her grandchildren grow up including her grand-dog Bruno.
Besides her beloved husband Antonio of over 60 years, Eva is survived by her loving children; Ana Lambert and her husband Michael, Paul Borges, Estele Borges, Tony Borges and his wife Devon. She is survived by nine grandchildren; Sarah Welch and her partner Eric Pimentel, Jillian and her husband Jordan Mace, Joshua, Emerson, and Aiden Borges, Jessica and Richard Enos Jr, Finn and Grier Borges, Brad and Ben Lambert, Landen Pimentel, and soon to be great granddaughter, Julia Evangelina Mace (named in her honor). Sister of Serafina DeSousa, the late Avelino Belo, Elmano Belo, Laurentina Duarte, Maria Davidson, Louis, Alcinio and Gabriela Melim.
Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 7th, 2024 from 4 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 8th, 2024 at 9am at Saint Anthony Church 126 School Street, Taunton. Relatives and friends may meet directly at church at 8:45 am.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
