Fernando Desousa

d. May 18, 2018

Fernando Raposo de Sousa of Taunton, entered into rest on Friday, May 18, 2018 at Taunton Nursing Home after declining health.  He was the beloved husband of Serafina deAraujo (Belo) deSousa.   Fernando  was born 91 years ago in Sao Miguel, Azores and moved to Taunton, MA in 1969.   He was the son of the late Manuel Inacio and Maria Henriqueta (Raposo) de Sousa.  Prior to moving to Taunton, Fernando was in the Portuguese military for four years and was a mechanic for Shell Portuguesa at the airport in Santa Maria, Azores from 1957 to 1969.  While living in Taunton, he worked at FB Rogers and other local silver companies until his retirement.  Fernando was known for his ability to fix just about anything; as well as, his sense of humor and witty comments.  Fernando enjoyed dancing, watching Portuguese soap operas, tinkering in his garage, his Christmas Village, his wine with dinner, going for sopas, traveling, casino trips, and camping with Eva and Tony.  Most of all, he enjoyed having his family around.  He was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton.  Besides his beloved wife Serafina of over 58 years, he is survived by his loving children, Carlos deSousa and his wife Cheryl of East Taunton, Ana Collins and her husband Roy, Joseph deSousa and his wife Geraldine, and Maria Bilodeau and her husband Timothy, all of Taunton.  He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jeremy Freitas, Amanda Collins, Zoe and Nora deSousa, and Michaela Schaaf.  He is predeceased by his brother, Jose deSousa and sisters, Maria Isabel deSousa and Maria Jose Furtado.   Fernando will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. deSousa’s  funeral will be held on Friday, May 25, 2018 at 7:45am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am in Saint Anthony Church School Street in Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
