Francisco Tavares

Francisco C. Tavares, age 92 of Taunton, passed away on January 19, 2019 at Longmeadow Nursing home with his loving family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of 53 years of the late Liliana (Borges) Tavares before her passing in 2018.

Francisco was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, he was a son of the late Francisco J. and Maria J. (Carreiro) Tavares.

Before retirement Mr. Tavares was employed with Dial Fabrics Company for 25 years as a Machine operator. Prior to coming to the United States, he was a professional painter.  He enjoyed Spending time with his family and most importantly with his grandchildren.  He loved playing cards and conversating at the Taunton Eagles Club, loved having his expresso too, and loved collecting coins.

Fransisco is survived by his loving children; Clotilde Tavares of Taunton, Elizabete Coutinho of Taunton and Ana Tavares of Taunton, also a “father” to Debbie Cataloni, grandfather of Katherine Coutinho, Cynthia Coutinho, and Sebastian Coutinho all of Taunton, brother of Clotilde and her husband Faustino Coutinho of Canada, brother of Clarimundo (deceased) and wife Celemeia Tavares of Taunton and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Arturo Tavares, Fernando Tavares, Maria do Carmo and Maria Jose.

Mr. Tavares’ funeral with visitation will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 8am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway(at Saint Mary’s Square)Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Saint Anthony’s Church, School St., Taunton.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.

(Additional parking with handicap access is located on the north side of the funeral home.)

The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Longmeadow Nursing Home for the compassionate care and kindness they provided to Francisco while in their care.
