Frank R. Almeida, of Taunton, MA, passed away at the age of 89 on October 25, 2021 after a lengthy illness.
Frank was the beloved husband of Lorraine (Medas) Almeida, to whom he was married for 67 years.
Born in Dighton, he was the son of the late Antone and Anna (Simas) Almeida.
Frank was the father of six children—Paula, Cheryl, Sandra, Susan, Thomas, and Andrew. He was the loving grandfather of Timothy and his wife Bridget, Sean, Katherine, Matthew, Mikaela, and Raquel, and one great-grandson Ronan. He was the uncle to many nieces & nephews. Frank was predeceased by his three brothers—Jimmy, Tony, and Dick.
Frank graduated from Taunton High School in 1950 and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree at Boston University. Frank coached football throughout his career as a high school science and physical education teacher. When he retired from teaching, he continued to coach football. After almost 60 years of coaching the sport he loved, Frank hung up his coaching shoes at the age of 81.
Frank was a communicant of St. Paul’s/St. Andrew’s churches and Our Lady of La Salette where he was proud to help out at Mass and sing hymns. For many years, one of Frank’s greatest joys was to go out dancing with his wife Lorraine.
Services and burial will be held privately. A Memorial Mass and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in Frank’s memory to Brother Roger’s Soup Kitchen at The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette (checks made payable to same), Attn: Brother Roger’s Soup Kitchen, 947 Park Street, Attleboro, MA 02703.
