George A. Ferreira

November 10, 1929 — August 16, 2022

George A. Ferreira, age 92 (92.9 as George would say) beloved husband of Anne M. (Vargas) Ferreira with whom he shared life’s blessings for 63 years.

He was further blessed with ten children, Mary Anne Koneski and husband, Steven, George and wife, Maria, Mary Rose Ferreira, Paul, Mary Margaret Horner and husband, Mark, Mary Frances Vivenzio and husband, Anthony, Mary Catherine Santos, Mary Louise Evan and husband, Richard, Stephen and wife, Carla and Mary Ellen Medeiros and husband, Mark.  He had thirty grandchildren and six great- grandchildren and one on the way.  He was also the brother to Raymond, Robert, Evelyn Mastromarino and the late Charles, Lewis, Alfred, Joseph, Serafim, Edward, James, Mary Ventura and several nieces and nephews.

George spent most of his life as an educator teaching in Seekonk and Taunton schools.  Though he didn’t complete high school in his teens, he decided education was important to him and returned to school where he received his GED, followed by his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Bridgewater State College while working full time and raising several children.  He became the first full-time director of Title 1 in Taunton, and served as principal at the Weir Grammar, Caswell and Leonard Schools.  He also served as Director of Summer Programs in Taunton and Raynham.  He retired from Leonard School where he spent his first grades as a student.  After retirement, he provided service as an outreach counselor for the Council on Aging where he made many friends who were in their “twilight” years.

He was a veteran of the Korean War and a proud member of the U.S. Air Force where he served four years, 25 months of which were spent in Tachikawa, Japan.

The focus of his life was faith and family.  He loved doing things with his kids and grandkids.  They all meant so much to him.  He especially loved attending all the games and functions of his grandchildren and especially loved dinners with the “gang” every Sunday.
