TAUNTON - George Pina, husband of Julia (Perry) Pina, died at Morton Hospital on Thursday September 25, with his family at his side. He was 89.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Charles and Rita (Pacheco) Pina.
A lifelong Taunton resident, he was educated in Taunton schools and later served in the U.S. Army with the 376th Infantry Regiment during World War II.
Mr. Pina worked as a polisher for Shields Inc. of Attleboro for more than 30 years, retiring many years ago.
He was a longtime member of the Baptist Church of All Nations in Taunton, where he served as Deacon Emeritus.
A member of the John Parker Taunton Golf Club, he especially enjoyed golfing with his grandsons - teaching them to play, and enjoy the game he loved.
Besides his wife of 70 years, he leaves 3 sons and 3 daughters, George Pina, Jr. of Preston, CT, Priscilla Silva of Raynham, Barbara Espinola, Arlene Nunes, and Edward Pina, all of Taunton, and Richard Pina of Bellingham; 3 brothers, Salvadore Pina of Taunton, and Jack and Charles Pina of Middleboro; a sister, Delores Tourinho of Taunton; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Agnes Veign, Ester Gonsalves and Albert, Antone, Arthur and Edwin Pina.
Calling hours for family and friends will be held Sunday Sept. 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton.
Funeral services will be held at the Baptist Church of All Nations, on Monday Sept. 29 at 10 a.m.
He will be buried in the Mayflower Hill Cemetery.
