TAUNTON - George S. Silva, husband of Ruth (Freitas) Silva, died on Friday, Sept. 19th at Morton Hospital. He was 80.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of the late Antone and Zalda (Benoit) Silva.
Educated in Taunton schools, he later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
He worked for the former Geilich Tannery of many years and later for Adriel Brothers in Attleboro, retiring in 1993.
A communicant of Annunciation of the Lord Church, he enjoyed golf, bowling, and reading; and was a member of the Club 55 Bowling League.
Besides his wife, he leaves a son, George S. Silva, Jr. and his wife Janet of Attleboro; a daughter, Karen O'Connor and her husband, David of N. Dighton; a brother, Robert H. Silva of Taunton; 3 sisters, Lillian Cosato of CA, Beatrice Malone of Taunton and Jeanette Silva of Dighton; 4 grandchildren, Anthony and Danielle Silva of Attleboro and Kelly and Scott O'Connor of N. Dighton; an aunt, Rosamond Sincock of Swansea; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Irene Amaral and the late Anthony, Arthur, Raymond, and Doris Silva.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Wednesday, Sept. 24th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Annunciation of the Lord Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Francis Cemetery (New).
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
