Gilbert C. Andrade, Sr., age 88 of Taunton, passed away on March 1, 2017 at Morton Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Eunice K. (Enos) DeAndrade.
Mr. Andrade was born in Funchal, Portugal a son of the late Francisco and Maria (Ponte) DeAndrade. He leaves a surviving brother, Francis Andrade of Brockton. He also was the brother of the late Virgilio "Leo" DeAndrade , the late Maria Lidia Bettencourt and the late Heliodoro DeAndrade.
Mr. Andrade was employed in the silver industry for his entire career, including Sheridan Silver, F.B. Rogers, Poole Silver and Sheffield Silver of Norton, Mass. He retired from Reed and Barton Silver Company in 1994. In his spare time his passion was deep sea fishing for tuna in the Provincetown area. He was also past president the Taunton Lions Club and the Taunton Jaycees. While a member of the Jaycees he was responsible for bringing the annual circus entertainment to Taunton with proceeds benefiting local charitable causes.
Besides his loving wife of 67 years, he is survived by his children, Gilbert "Skip" Andrade of Elizabethtown, New York and his wife, Jackie, Mary Lou Andrade of Taunton, Claudia Neault of Bridgewater and her husband, Raymond "Chip", Robin Gringorten of Auburndale, Mass. and her husband, Sheldon, and Sharron Burgess of Rileyville, Virginia. He was also the father of the late Audrey Avilla of Taunton.
Other family members include 9 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Private funeral services will be held at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway in Taunton. A memorial gathering will be announced for a later date.
