James Dutra, age 58 of Dighton, passed away at Oak Hill Healthcare on October 4, 2022.
Born in Taunton, he was the son of Maureen Dutra and the late George Dutra.
Jim was a devoted son, faithful brother and doting uncle who loved spending time with his family. “Uncle Jimmy’s” love for Don McLean’s song American Pie” on a family trip to Martha’s Vineyard one summer led to one of the most enduring memories for his nieces and nephews. No family wedding was complete without that song being played while a big circle of loved ones sang at the top of their lungs, performing multiple “dance-offs”.
Jim was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing whenever he could, but he enjoyed purchasing clubs almost as much as he did playing. To this day, many family and friends have at least one club in their bag that came from Jim. Jim followed his father into a career in printing and spent over 20 years as a skilled pressman until the pandemic forced the closing of his company.
Besides his loving mother Maureen, he is survived by his siblings; Jeannine Wood and husband Joseph, John Dutra and wife Leslie, Mary Pirhala and husband Dan, Lisa Blanck and husband Michael, 10 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial to which relative and friends are invited will be celebrated on Monday, October 17, 2022 at 10am in Saint Nicholas of Myra Church, Spring Street, North Dighton.
Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to the hospice company that provided Jim with compassion and comfort would be deeply appreciated. Amedisys Foundation 3854 American Way Suite A Baton Rouge, LA 70816 or www.amedisys.com/donate.
