Janice B. (Dexter) Southworth, age 86 of Fairhaven, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024 at St. Luke’s hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was the former wife of the late Alfred R. Southworth who passed in 2019.
Born in Mattapoisett, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Beatrice (Vossahlik) Dexter.
Growing up in Mattapoisett she spent many a summer with her siblings enjoying the beach and the many German Shepards that accompanied them over the years wherever they went.
Janice had many clerical jobs throughout the years before taking time off to raise her three children. She then returned to the workforce where she was a secretary for the MA State Parole board for 10 years before retiring.
Throughout her life Janice enjoyed gardening, traveling, and spending time with her family. She had a great love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will forever be remembered as a loving mother and a kind gentle spirit who had a smile for everyone.
Janice is survived by her three children, Douglas Southworth and wife Lisa of Washington State, Sharon Pontbriand and husband Ronald of New Bedford, and Jean Cristaldi of Dartmouth. Her five grandchildren Brennan and Patricia, Jessica, Nicholas and Madison. Her three great grandchildren Jacob, Juliana and Jade. Her brother John Dexter of Marston’s Mills, and sister Diane Baron of Fairhaven. She was predeceased by her siblings, Chester, Daniel, Calvin, Florence, Shirley, Susan, Patricia, and just recently her twin sister Janet Raymond.
A private grave-side service will be held at Pine Island Cemetery, Mattapoisett.
