TAUNTON- Jeanne M. Linhares, 84, of Taunton, MA. passed away on December 12, 2023, at Life Care of Raynham after a long battle with respiratory disease.
Jeanne was born January 16,1939 to Jesse M. and Mary (Correia) Linhares in Taunton.
After graduating from St. Mary High School in 1957, Jeanne entered the novitiate of the Sisters of
the Holy Union of the Sacred Heart for a short time.
She worked as an office manager at Prudential Insurance Company for several years prior to attending Bristol Community College in Fall River, MA. Jeanne graduated with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1976. Her first position was as a staff nurse at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro, MA. She was a critical care nurse for many years.
Jeanne spent several months as a Maritime nurse for the US Coast Guard tending to the medical needs of her shipmates while deployed at sea. Before her retirement, she was employed as a nursing supervisor at the Paul A. Dever State School in Taunton until it closed in 2002. She also worked as a per diem geriatric nurse. Jeanne’s passion in life was playing golf. She was a divisional champion at Heritage Hill Golf Club in 1999 and 2002. She enjoyed playing with her close friends and family whenever and wherever possible. Jeanne was an excellent tennis player as well. She was a dedicated Patriots fan!
Jeanne was predeceased by her parents, her brothers; Edward Linhares of Monument Beach, MA Richard Linhares and Robert Linhares of Taunton Very Reverend William Linhares, TOR, Hollidaysburg, PA Jesse R Linhares of Melrose, MA. Her sisters; Mary and her husband Robert Hartung of Taunton Eleanor McGreevy of Taunton.
Jeanne is survived by; Her sister, Elizabeth and her husband Lawrence Newman of Taunton Sisters-in-law, Marion Linhares of Monument Beach, MA, Janice Linhares of Westport, CT Her brothers, Joseph Linhares and his wife Sandra of New Seabury, MA/Naples FL Thomas Linhares and his husband Gary Strysko of Parrish, FL Stephen Linhares of Taunton. Jeanne is also survived by 27 nieces and nephews and several grand and great grand nieces and nephews.
Jeanne’s funeral will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2023 , at 9:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, Kilmer Avenue, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, December 18th , from 5 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home.
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
