Joanne Rose

Listen to Obituary

Joanne P. Rose went home to God on Friday, April 17, 2026. Born in Taunton on April 8, 1947, she was the daughter of the late John P. and Angelina Mendonca.

Joanne was a lifelong resident of Taunton. She attended Taunton Public Schools and graduated from Taunton High School in 1965. Following graduation, she began her career as a legal secretary at a local law firm specializing in criminal and personal law. Over the years, she continued her work with several law firms in Taunton handling real estate closings.

After many years in the legal field, Joanne embraced a new path inspired by her love of children. She joined the Taunton Public School system as a teaching assistant, working with fifth-grade special needs students for over 25 years until her retirement. Even after retiring, Joanne’s dedication led her back to the school department in a part-time role, where she provided office support across various schools as needed. She was a devoted and valued employee throughout her career within the Taunton Public School system.

Joanne was deeply active in her church community, serving as a lector and teaching in the CCD program. She was also involved as a troop leader with the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts. Joanne and her husband shared a love of travel, especially family trips in their earlier years. In retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the country and enjoyed many cruises together.

Joanne is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Harold J. Rose Jr. She also leaves her three daughters: Tracy Lynskey and her husband Richard; Sherry Davis and her husband Lee, both of Taunton; and Lori Smith and her husband Jonathan of Bangor, Maine. She is further survived by her grandchildren: Brandon Motta and his wife Tricia, along with their son, Logan Harold Motta; Cassie Motta and her partner Chad Resendes of Mansfield, MA; and George, Henry, and Elizabeth Smith of Bangor, Maine.

She also leaves behind two sisters: Linda Mendonca of Taunton, and Dorothy Hayes and her husband Timothy of Lake Worth, Florida.

Joanne’s funeral will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at 8:30 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, Taunton.
