EAST TAUNTON - Joao Coelho, husband of Celestina (Ourique) Coelho of East Taunton, died unexpectedly in Terceira, Azores on July 1, 2010.
He was 59.
Born in Terceira, where he played the tuba and served in the Portuguese Army, Mr. Coelho was the son of the late Joao and Ana (Luz) Vieira Coelho.
He moved to the U.S. in 1975 and was employed briefly by the former Coppercraft Guild.
He later worked for RECP of Plainville for over 25 years as a foreman, and more recently for the former Esterline Haskon Aerospace Co.
Currently, he was employed by the D.W. Clark Co. of E. Bridgewater, where he was working as a welder.
A communicant of Holy Family Church, Mr. Coelho had an appreciation for animals, and enjoyed raising rabbits in his spare time.
He was also a sports fan and avid supporter of his favorite soccer team, Sporting Club Portugal.
Besides his wife to whom he was married for over 34 years, he leaves a son, Danny Coelho of E. Taunton; two sisters, Maria Odete Oliveira of Terceira, and Ana Almeida of Toronto, Canada; five nieces and three nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Friday, July 9th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, East Taunton at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, July 8th from 5 to 8 p.m.
