TURLOCK, CA- Joao M. Mendonca, age 78, a longtime resident of Turlock, California, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, CA.
Born in Fontinhas, Terceira, Azores, Joao was the eldest of nine children born to the late Joao D. and Maria (Andrade) Mendonca. He was raised and educated in the Azores. In 1970, Joao immigrated to California, settling in Turlock, where he would reside for the rest of his lifetime.
A hardworking man who took pride in a job well done, Joao, along with many residents of Turlock, worked in the farming and agriculture industry. He was respected by his fellow workers for his great work ethic.
In his spare time, Joao loved visiting his family in Massachusetts and making everyone laugh. He loved to eat Portuguese cuisine and have a nice glass of wine. He was an avid fan of Sporting CP Soccer Club and he enjoyed playing the card game, Sueca.
Joao is survived by his son: Phillip Mendonca; his siblings: Antonio Mendonca, Lurdes St. Laurent, Jose Mendonca, Jorge Mendonca, Carlos Mendonca, Helio Mendonca, Francisco Mendonca, and the late Maria Rocha; and also many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Private services and burial will take place at Mayflower Hill Cemetery, Taunton.
