Joao “GG” DeMedeiros, age 83 of Taunton, passed away on September 29, 2020 with his loving family by his side.
He was the beloved husband of the late Aida (Cabral) DeMedeiros.
Joao was born in Sao Miguel, Azores, the son of the late Joao and Geralda (Borges) DeMedeiros.
Before retiring, Mr. DeMedeiros was a self- employed mason. He enjoyed Quahoging, scratch tickets, going to the casino and was an avid Benfica Soccer fan. He was a member of the Taunton Eagle’s, a hard worker and most of all was devoted to his family.
Joao is survived by his loving children; Aida Nixon and husband Randy of VA, Carlos Medeiros and wife Lisa of Raynham, Melissa Arcouette and husband Steve of No. Dighton, Elsie Shaw and husband Ken of Taunton, John DeMedeiros and wife Michelle, Jason DeMedeiros and wife Kim both of New Bedford, brother of Gilberto Medeiros of Cape Cod and Geralda Sousa of Sao Miguel. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, Brianna, Tyler, Nicole, Corey, Andrew, Victoria, Jordan, Aidan, Ryker and a great-grandchild to arrive soon, baby Mason, many nieces and nephews and his faithful companion his dog Scooby. He was also the brother of the late Manuel Medeiros, Josemaria Medeiros and Lourdes Sousa.
Joao’s funeral with visitation will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 9 am with a service to begin at 10 am in the chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery. During all services facial coverings and social distancing will be required.
