John B. Areias, age 86 of East Taunton, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the beloved husband of Arlene (Vaz Lima) Areias.
Born, raised, and educated in Agualva Terceira, Azores, the son of the late Mateus and Lucilia (DaSilva-Guimaraes) Areias.
A resident of East Taunton since 1954, John was a parishioner of Holy Family Church and a lifetime member and past president of the Holy Ghost Society, Inc. of East Taunton.
Before retiring, John was employed with Nissan Motor Corp. USA in Mansfield as a warehouse supervisor.
John enjoyed gardening, tending to his grapevines, and making his own wine which he loved to share with his family and friends. In addition, he also enjoyed watching the Red Sox on TV, quahogging, fishing and his Friday night card games in his wine shed with his friends. Most of all he loved spending summers at his home in Terceira Azores.
Besides his beloved wife Arlene of over 64 years, he is survived by his loving children; Dr. Joseph Areias of Taunton and Gloria-Jean Fitzgerald and her husband David of East Taunton, grandfather of Lauren and her husband Blaze, Ryan and his fiancé Chelsea, Nicholas, Luke, Sabrina, Jack and Isabelle. He was the brother of Louis Areias and his wife Jane, Lucy Cozzone and her husband Jim, and Mary Silva all of Taunton. He was also the brother of the late Matthew, Joseph and Ivo Areias. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and two Godchildren.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Compassionate Care Hospice of Taunton for all of their kindness and care.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday morning, February 18, 2021 from 8am to 9:30am in the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Holy Family Parish. Those wishing to join the family for prayers at the grave-side may gather at the front entrance of Saint Joseph Cemetery 475 East Britannia St, Taunton at 11 am on Thursday, February 18, 2021. (You may park your cars on the right side on the main road of the cemetery, and join John’s funeral procession when it arrives.
During all services, facial coverings and social distancing will be required.
