John M. Evangelho, Sr., husband of Elsie C. (Cabral) Evangelho, died at Mass. General Hospital, Boston on Friday, Sept. 12th at the age of 85.
Born in Dighton, he was the son of the late Manuel M. and Rosa (Coelho) Evangelho.
A lifelong Dighton area resident, he was educated in Dighton schools and owned and operated Winding Trail Farm in Dighton since 1948.
A recipient of the Marian Medal, he was a communicant of St. Nicholas (formerly St. Joseph) Church in N. Dighton, where he served as treasurer for the parishes' St. Vincent DePaul Society for over 40 years.
He was also a life member of BPO Elks Lodge 150 of Taunton.
Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Donna L. Jusseaume and her husband Gregoire of N. Dighton; 3 sisters, Mary Corey and Rose Silva, both of N. Dighton and Vivian Martin of Longwood, FL; 4 grandchildren, Jennifer Jacobs, John M. Evangelho, III and Heather and Sean Jusseaume; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late John M. Evangelho, Jr.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Monday, Sept. 15th at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Nicholas Church, N. Dighton at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Calling Hours will be Sunday, from 4 to 8 p.m.
