John A. Goulart passed away at the age of 85 on December 26, 2020 at Sturdy Memorial Hospital after a valiant struggle with COVID-19. He was the husband of Nancy J. (Bindon) Goulart for over fifty-eight years. John was born in Dighton and lived his entire life there. He was the son of Manuel and Mary (Gracia) Goulart. He was educated in Dighton schools and served in the U.S. Air Force. His most memorable tour of duty was serving in Alaska when it became a state. He returned to Alaska three times and toured there extensively, even traveling the Dalton Highway from Deadhorse on Prudhoe Bay to Fairbanks. John enjoyed trips to the southwest and visited that area for over twenty years, visiting the National Parks and always stopping in El Paso to visit family.
John was an avid Boston sports fan and enjoyed trips to Fenway Park and the old Boston Garden to see the Bruins. John was retired from Independent Nail Co. In his younger days, he enjoyed hunting and deep-sea fishing. He enjoyed traveling and with his wife, visited every state in the U. S. and every province and territory in Canada. He also traveled extensively by ship having made two North Atlantic and one Pacific crossing, and sailed the Panama Canal. His most recent cruises were from Boston to Quebec City and Boston to Cuba. He visited countries in Europe, Asia, North Africa, and South America.
John was a communicant of St. Nicholas of Myra Church and helped with the major fund-raising activities that included the diocesan Catholic Charities and parish Annual Collection. He enjoyed gardening and taking care of the yard. While attending St. Peter’s Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society.
John is survived by his son, John, Jr., of Stoughton, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters Mary Keating, Margaret Souza, Helen Costa, and his brothers Edward, George, and Joseph. He is also survived by many friends; especially those with whom he met every morning at Alice’s Restaurant where prior to the pandemic, they discussed and solved all of problems of the world every day.
Private funeral arrangements are with Silva Funeral Home of Taunton. Interment was held in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
