John B. MacDonald Sr., 81, of Raynham and formerly of Middleboro, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, November 16, 2018.
He was the husband of Gwendolyn R. (Leathers) MacDonald, with whom he shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Jamaica Plain, MA, he was a son of the late Peter and Irene (Gallant) MacDonald.
A peacetime veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, he was a manager for various regional Stop & Shop grocery stores and previous to retirement managed the canteen at the Dept. of Correction Bridgewater State Hospital. Known for his loving nature, John was a proud Marine who enjoyed cooking, reading and spending time with his family. A lover of music, he enjoyed opera, bagpipes and playing his family heirloom violin. Prince Edward Island was his favorite place on earth to visit.
Besides his beloved wife, Gwendolyn, John is survived by his children; John B. MacDonald, Jr. and his wife Donna of Maine, Kathleen A. Bettencourt and her husband Charles of Raynham, Daniel P. MacDonald of Torrance, CA, Peter J. MacDonald of Raynham and Ian A. MacDonald and his wife Sallome of Bourne, MA; grandchildren, Patrick J. MacDonald, Shannon M. Crowley, Natalie N. Perkins, Alexandra B. Bettencourt, Devyn H. MacDonald and Braeley E. MacDonald; great grandchildren, Adrianna, Urijah, Kayden and Elena Mae; and several nieces and nephews. He was also brother of the late Dorothy Hender, Allan MacDonald, Hilda Maloon and Eugene MacDonald.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral on Tuesday, November 20th at 9:00am from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, with Mass of Christian Burial to follow in St. Ann Church, Raynham, at 10:00AM. Upon conclusion of Mass, Military Honors will be rendered outside of the church. Private cremation to follow. Calling hours will be held on Monday from 5-8pm.
