John B. Sousa “Johnny Hardware”, age 79 of Dighton, passed away on June 24, 2026 at Boston Medical Center in Brighton with his loving family by his side.
He was the husband of the late Lynn (Rider) Sousa.
Born in Somerset, John was the son of the late John and Esther (Roderick) Sousa.
John grew up on the farm of Indian Spring Dairy. He was an intrical part of daily operations He had fond memories of delivering milk and caring for his cows. A 1964 graduate from Somerset High School, John later went on to study business at Bryant college.
“ Johnny Hardware” opened A-1 Hardware in 1975. He was proud to have celebrated his 51st year in business. He loved his customers and throughout the years they became like family. He served his community in a unique way with his advanced knowledge of DIY fix it solutions. The community rewarded him by making him a local LEGEND!
In 1998 John opened Grandview Farm in Dighton. He loved cutting his fields and playing on his tractor. John's vast knowledge didn't end at hardware. He was also a huge history “ buff” who could recite all the details of any particular war or conflict. He would study maps and atlas's in his free time. His children affectionately would call him Indy ( Indiana Jones) on occasion.
John was a true humanitarian. He was always helping people in need . The community could always count on “Johnny” for donations for the schools or activities for children. John was a boy at heart and liked to have fun. He was always ready with a joke. Most times he never got through to the punchline without laughing himself. He loved the groans he received for his “dad” jokes. John loved his work and his tractor. His greatest pride was raising his children and eventually his greatest joy became spending time and spoiling his grandchildren. He loved to fish.
John is survived by his loving children, Lorri Martin and her husband John of Somerset, Roxane Camara and her partner Mike of Fall River, Allison Sousa and her partner John of Westport and Michael Stern and his wife Cherie of NY, grandfather of Chloe, Gemma, Dalilah, Morgan, Richard and Kalynn. John was also the brother of Marjorie Aardal of TX, Joan Manson of Az . Many nieces nephews cousins and friends. He was the brother of the late Clotelde, John, James, Richard, Lenard, Barbara, and Claire Sousa.
All services will be held in the Somerset Funeral Home of Silva-Faria 84 County Street, Somerset MA 02726.
John’s funeral will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 9:45am from Silva-Faria Funeral Home 84 County St, Somerset, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30am in St. Patrick Church.
Interment will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 from 4 to 7pm in Silva -Faria Funeral Home 84 County St, Somerset.
Interment will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.
